Prof. Dr. Maali Hashim Ali, Director of the Continuing Education Center at Al-Zahraa (A.S.) University for Women, participated as a member of the doctoral dissertation defense committee for the dissertation entitled “Al-Baghdadi’s Khizanat Al-Adab (d. 1093 AH): A Pragmatic Study,” submitted by PhD candidate Ahmed Hassan Hammadi at the Department of Arabic Language, College of Imam Al-Kadhim (A.S.) for Islamic Sciences University. The defense was held at Al-Naba Al-Azeem Hall.

The dissertation aimed to examine Al-Baghdadi’s Khizanat Al-Adab through a pragmatic approach, exploring the mechanisms of interaction between language, context, and communicative intentions, as well as the meanings conveyed by poetic citations and texts beyond their literal interpretations.

The study concluded that the pragmatic approach contributed to uncovering the relationships between the text and its context, highlighting speakers’ intentions and the mechanisms through which meaning is conveyed. It also demonstrated the diversity of poetic citations and their multiple intellectual, social, and cultural dimensions.
