English Language Department

The English Language Department is a humanities department that focuses on studying language as a means of communication, thought, and culture. The department emphasises developing students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English, along with the study of English and American literature, including both classical and modern texts, and places particular emphasis on the educational and pedagogical aspects of secondary school education.

Department of Arabic Language

The Department of Arabic Language represents a model of academic excellence within the Faculty of Education. Established in the 2019–2020 academic year, it operates under the University’s “single-department” policy. All members of the teaching staff contribute to its programmes, which are based on an integrated academic programme that keeps pace with modern electronic technologies and undergoes periodic development to meet the needs of society and enhance educational outcomes.

Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Education, Al-Zahraa University for Women, was established in 2018 under Ministerial Order No. (2189) dated 6 December 2018. The department is committed to providing high-quality education and implementing academic accreditation standards to graduate distinguished female students who can contribute effectively to the development of Iraq. The department is chaired by Lect. Dr. Yaseen Mirza Hamza, who supervises both academic and administrative activities to achieve the department’s objectives. The department seeks to promote qualitative and quantitative development in scientific, educational, and cultural knowledge. Additionally, the study system is semester-based and extends over four academic years.

Department of Art Education

The Department of Art Education plays a fundamental role in developing female students’ intellectual, psychological and creative capacities. Established in the 2024–2025 academic year, the Department operates under the University’s single-department policy, with all teaching staff contributing to its programmes. The Department adopts an academic programme encompassing artistic, intellectual, emotional and social dimensions, drawing on the principles of global culture. It embraces the view of art as a branch of the humanities concerned with the nature and development of human life, while advancing towards the concept of digital art education, which incorporates digital technologies, including cyber art and its applications, as a foundation for teaching art education in a manner that reflects contemporary developments. This approach is reflected in both the curriculum and the behaviours associated with its content, and is manifested through sensory perception, verbal information, comprehension, analysis, criticism, measurement, evaluation, appreciation and artistic production.

Department of Special Education

The Department of Special Education is dedicated to preparing specialised educational professionals capable of working with individuals with special educational needs by equipping them with theoretical and practical knowledge, enabling them to assess and diagnose cases, and design individualised educational programmes. This contributes to their integration into society and helps them achieve the highest possible level of independence.

Department of Nahj Al-Balagha and Islamic Education

The Department of Nahj Al-Balagha and Islamic Education at Al-Zahraa University is a specialised academic department that combines the study of Imam Ali's (peace be upon him) methodology in Nahj Al-Balagha with its application in various Islamic and educational sciences. The department also offers diverse courses including the interpretation of Nahj Al-Balagha, Islamic thought, theology ('Ilm Al-Kalam), applied rhetoric, Qur'anic sciences, and other subjects that connect Islamic heritage with contemporary reality. The programme focuses on studying Imam Ali's (PBUH) educational, ethical, and intellectual methodology and extracting its lessons and applications across different scientific fields. Additionally, the department aims to prepare specialists capable of understanding the depth of Nahj Al-Balagha and .connecting it with other Islamic and human sciences. It also seeks to graduate researchers and educators who employ Imam Ali's (PBUH) teachings in education, teaching, and community service

Artificial Intelligence Engineering Department

The Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Al-Zahraa University for Women, is one of the modern engineering departments dedicated to delivering distinguished academic education in the field of artificial intelligence and its applications. The department aims to prepare qualified female engineers with strong theoretical foundations and practical competencies in analysing, designing, and developing intelligent systems. This is achieved through a comprehensive curriculum that integrates computer science and engineering principles, covering areas such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, data analysis, and intelligent systems. The department emphasises the development of analytical thinking, research capabilities, and practical skills through specialised laboratories and applied projects. It seeks to equip graduates with the qualifications required to compete in local and international job markets, contribute effectively to the advancement of intelligent technological solutions, and pursue postgraduate studies and scientific research in artificial intelligence and related fields.

Cybersecurity Engineering Department

The Cybersecurity Department at Al-Zahraa University focuses on preparing qualified professionals capable of protecting systems, networks, and data from cyber threats. The department provides female students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in information security, penetration testing, and network security in line with technological advancements and labour market needs.

Communications and Mobile Computing Engineering Department

The Communications and Mobile Computing Engineering Department is a modern and interdisciplinary engineering field that systematically integrates the principles of telecommunications engineering with computer engineering. It focuses on the analysis, design, and implementation of advanced communication systems, including wireless communications, cellular networks, and satellite systems, alongside core computing areas such as software development, hardware design, and embedded systems. The department aims to prepare highly qualified engineers capable of keeping pace with rapid technological advancements by providing a solid theoretical foundation and advanced practical skills. The curriculum covers key areas such as digital signal processing, communication and computer network design, mobile application development, Internet of Things (IoT), embedded systems, and modern wireless technologies. Emphasis is placed on bridging theory with practice through laboratory work and engineering projects, enabling graduates to excel in telecommunications, information technology, smart systems, and digital transformation domains.

Department of Architectural Engineering

The Department of Architectural Engineering at the faculty of Engineering and Information Technology – Al-Zahraa University for Women is dedicated to preparing academically and professionally qualified female graduates in the fields of architecture and urban development, capable of addressing contemporary environmental, technological, and societal challenges. The department offers an integrated academic programme that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, with a strong emphasis on architectural design skills, construction technologies, environmental sustainability, and the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in architecture. The department is also committed to promoting scientific research, community engagement, and aligning educational outcomes with labour market needs, contributing to sustainable urban development and the improvement of the built environment at both local and regional levels.

Aesthetic and Laser Technologies Department

The Department of Aesthetic and Laser Technologies is considered one of the specialised scientific departments dedicated to preparing scientifically and practically qualified personnel in the fields of skin care, medical and cosmetic laser technologies, and modern non-surgical treatments. The department aims to provide female students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the use of laser devices, peeling techniques, photo-therapy, and advanced dermatological care, in accordance with the latest scientific standards and principles of occupational safety. The department focuses on integration between medical and technical aspects through the study of the fundamentals of anatomy and skin physiology, and the basics of common dermatological diseases, in addition to practical training within laboratories equipped with the latest devices, ensuring the graduation of competent professionals capable of working in medical and cosmetic centres and specialised clinics with high efficiency and professionalism.

Digital Design Engineering Department

The Department of Digital Design Engineering is dedicated to preparing engineering graduates who combine strong foundations in computing, modern software technologies, and digital design principles. The department equips female students with the ability to analyse problems, design interactive solutions, and develop digital products that achieve both functional efficiency and high visual quality. Its academic focus includes user interface and user experience design, application and interactive systems development, digital graphics, and multimedia, supported by practical learning environments that employ modelling, simulation, and contemporary digital tools. The department also aims to graduate engineers who can integrate design thinking with engineering methodology, enabling them to contribute effectively to digital innovation, respond to labour market needs, and keep pace with ongoing technological transformation.
