The Department of Radiology Techniques at the Faculty of Health and Medical Techniques, Al-Zahraa University for Women, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organised a scientific workshop entitled “Unnatural Sources of Radiation”. The workshop was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 21 December 2022, in Hall (8) of the Department of Radiology Techniques, and was delivered by Asst. Lect. Anwar Abd Al-Hassan Aziz.

The workshop introduced the concept of radiation, its various sources, and its potential effects on human health. The presenter explained that radiation is energy transmitted from one place to another in the form of waves or particles. People are exposed to radiation in their daily lives through a variety of common sources, including sunlight, microwave ovens, and radio devices in our cars. Most of these forms of radiation pose little or no risk to human health under normal conditions.

The workshop further highlighted that the risks associated with radiation exposure are generally low when exposure occurs at minimal doses. However, the potential health hazards increase with higher levels of exposure, making it essential to adopt appropriate protective measures according to the type of radiation in order to minimise its impact on both human health and the environment.

It is significant to point out that the workshop forms part and parcel of the scientific activities regularly organised by the Department of Radiology Techniques at the Faculty of Health and Medical Techniques, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at Al-Zahraa University for Women.
