Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani, the President of ZUW, participated in the inauguration ceremony of Al-Sheikh Ahmed Al-Waeli Medical and Educational Foundation. The foundation was officially opened by His Eminence Al-Sheikh Abd Al-Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, the Legitimate Overseer of the Affairs of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine. Additionally, the event was attended by the Minister of Health, as well as the Governors of the Holy Governorate of Karbala, Najaf, and Al-Diwaniyah. The said event coincides with the auspicious occasion of Eid Al-Ghadir.

The foundation comprises Khadija Al-Kubra Specialised Women’s Hospital and Imam Al-Hasan Al-Mujtaba Hospital for Haematological Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplantation.

It bears noting that Khadija Al-Kubra Specialised Women’s Hospital consists of eleven storeys with a built-up area exceeding 20,000 square metres and a capacity of 203 hospital beds. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of medical specialities dedicated to women. Notably, all medical, nursing, administrative, and service staff, as well as all patients, are women.

Meanwhile, Imam Al-Hasan Al-Mujtaba Hospital for Haematological Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplantation comprises eleven storeys with a built-up area of more than 8,000 square metres and a capacity of 79 hospital beds. The hospital is dedicated to the treatment of specialised cases involving blood disorders and bone marrow transplantation.

Both hospitals are regarded as among the most advanced and distinctive healthcare institutions in Iraq, owing to their state-of-the-art medical equipment and modern architectural design. Furthermore, Khadija Al-Kubra Hospital project represents the second major women-focused initiative established by Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, following the earlier establishment of Al-Zahraa University for Women, which is dedicated exclusively to female students. The hospital also serves as an important practical training environment for the University’s graduates and constitutes a significant outcome of medical education.

It is worth noting that this initiative reflects the special attention devoted by Imam Hussein Holy Shrine to the establishment of educational and healthcare institutions exclusively for women. In addition, such projects contribute to the development of advanced female medical professionals in Iraq and enhance the specialised academic and scientific standing of women across the country.
