Al-Zahraa University for Women was honoured to hold a ceremony for raising the flag of Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him ) at the entrance to its University campus. The said event coincides with the announcement by the General Secretariat of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine of the commencement of the mourning rituals of Muharram.

The ceremony, held in Umm Abiha Hall in the University’s main building, was attended by a delegation from Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, including Prof. Ahmed Shams Al-Din, Director of the Youth Care Centre, together with members of the Human Resources Development Department. It is worth mentioning that the event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Zainab Abd Al-Hussein Al-Sultani, the University President, alongside academic and administrative staff.

The programme commenced with a blessed recitation from the Holy Qur'an, followed by an address delivered by the University President. In her speech, she highlighted the aspirations and values embodied in the Hussaini cause and affirmed the University’s commitment to nurturing a culturally aware Hussaini generation of women who uphold the principles and enduring legacy of Imam Hussein’s revolution. She further outlined the University’s Ashura programme, which seeks to embrace Muslim women and reflect their identity through the revival of religious rituals, in addition to organising a range of cultural, religious, and literary activities aligned with the message of Imam Hussein (PBUH).

The ceremony concluded with attendees proceeding to the flagpole area to complete the flag-raising ceremony in a dignified atmosphere befitting the occasion and the revered status of Imam Hussein (PBUH).
