As a continuation of the scientific workshop on the 2023 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, and in support of initiatives aimed at promoting environmental awareness and fostering an integrated community culture based on scientific and civilised approaches to environmental challenges, the Scientific Affairs Department, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Department at Al-Zahraa University for Women, held the second scientific workshop dedicated to the aforementioned world ranking.

The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Zuhair Mohammed Ali Jaddoa, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Husseini, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, along with a number of heads of departments and academics at Al-Zahraa University for Women.

The workshop, delivered by Dr. Bushra Mohammed Al-Mutairi, Director of Global Rankings Programmes at the University of Babylon, addressed the main criteria of the 2023 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking. These criteria aim to promote the rational use of energy and water, encourage waste recycling, and guide graduation projects undertaken by final-year students towards fields that address environmental challenges.

For its part, the Presidency of Al-Zahraa University for Women expressed its readiness to establish teams comprising members from various academic specialisations to collect and compile the data required for the criteria of the 2023 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking. This initiative is intended to contribute to improving the University’s global ranking and fostering a sustainable environment.

It is worth noting that the GreenMetric Ranking is a world university ranking focused on green campuses and environmental sustainability. It was launched in Indonesia in 2010 and is based on 39 indicators across six criteria, covering areas including campus setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water use, and the extent to which environmental sustainability is incorporated into education.
