The Faculty of Education at Al-Zahraa University for Women organised a discussion session hosted by the Department of English Language on Tuesday, 22 November 2022, in Um Abiha Hall. The said event welcomed a delegation from Imam Al-Sadiq University, who delivered a scientific discussion session entitled “New Trends in Translation.”
The delegation comprised distinguished specialists in the field of translation, and the session targeted the academic staff members and students.
The discussion was structured around four key topics. The first topic, presented by Dr. Maha Lafta, examined ideological issues and the extent to which a translator’s ideology may influence a text. The second topic, delivered by Dr. Mujtaba Al-Hillo, addressed cultural differences between languages and their impact on translation practices.
The third topic, given by Dr. Basim Jubair, explored machine translation and the advances achieved in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for the automatic translation of texts from one language to another with minimal human intervention. The final topic, presented by Dr. Zaina Al-Shammari, highlighted the most significant traditional and contemporary approaches to translation.
