The Department of Dormitories, in cooperation with the Services Affairs Department and the Continuing Education Department, held an awareness workshop entitled “Civil Defence Procedures”. The workshop was held on Wednesday, 23 August 2023, at Umm Abiha Hall, and was presented by Mahdi Ridha Mohammad. Additionally, the said event comes as part and parcel of the awareness campaigns organised by Al-Zahraa University for Women, and as part and parcel of its commitment to protecting lives and property during times of crisis.

The workshop covered the key measures required to contain fires, namely cooling, isolation, and starvation, as well as securing and organising early-warning systems. It also highlighted the importance of installing smoke, heat, and flame detectors in every institution. The workshop addressed the factors contributing to fires, known as the fire triangle: heat, oxygen, and fuel, in addition to the main classes of fires, including those involving solid materials, liquids, electrical equipment, and metals.

The workshop also discussed the different types of fire extinguishers, including dry powder extinguishers, which are suitable for solid, gas, and electrical fires; CO₂ extinguishers, which are used for electrical fires; and foam extinguishers, which are used to extinguish fires involving petroleum products.
