With Iraqi, Arab, and international participation, and through the self-funded efforts of a number of Iraqi photographers, the “Photo In” forum hosted a large gathering of photographers from across Iraq. The said event, now held for the third consecutive year, is regarded as the largest photography gathering organised in the country.
The forum aimed to establish a specialised community for photography and videography professionals of varying levels, with the objective of strengthening professional collaboration among specialists in the field, developing their technical capabilities, and providing opportunities for launching pioneering joint projects.
Photographer, videographer, and director Sarmad Al-Husseini, a staff member at Al-Zahraa University for Women, participated as a trainer in the activities of the “Photo In” event, which was held at Al-Safwa University Hall in the Holy city of Karbala’.
During his session, Al-Husseini discussed his experience in the field of photography, which began in Syria in 2009, before specialising in short films, documentary production, and commercial advertisements. He also highlighted the latest technologies currently available in mobile devices, in addition to the creative ability to produce impactful scenes and events using the simplest equipment.
Furthermore, he demonstrated methods of utilising mobile phones professionally in photography, videography, and editing, as well as techniques for creating professional visual content through accessible tools and applications. The session also explored programmes that support the production of short films, documentaries, sports media, and commercial advertisements using portable devices.
It is noteworthy that the “Photo In” activities were held across five Iraqi governorates: Al-Anbar, Basra, Karbala’, Baghdad, and Erbil. The forum brought together more than 2,000 photographers through a platform that hosted local and international speakers, who addressed the latest developments in photography and videography to keep pace with global advancements in the field.
Additionally, attendance registrations for the forum exceeded 6,000 participants through an electronic registration form. This year’s edition was further distinguished by the inclusion of an exhibition hall and specialised training workshops.
