Division of Women's Affairs

The Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Zahraa University for Women serves as a vital source of empowerment for women, fostering their confidence and strengthening their ability to identify and pursue their strategic life goals. It also provides a platform for comprehensive change aimed at enhancing women’s status in society through government and community support, with an emphasis on the importance of policy and collective action. This approach empowers women to establish their own agendas and objectives and strengthens their ability to exercise control over their lives, both within and beyond the home. Furthermore, it promotes women’s sense of self-worth and agency and upholds their right to access resources and benefit from the opportunities available to them. Accordingly, the Division has identified key priorities for its work, foremost among them those aligned with the National Strategic Plan launched by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. These priorities include raising women’s awareness of their legal rights and ensuring access to community support that enables them to exercise those rights. This is pursued through awareness-raising campaigns, mobilising community support, and promoting the effective implementation of legal rights. More broadly, legal empowerment encourages the enactment of legislation that safeguards women’s rights, supports advocacy on their behalf, and addresses violations through the judicial system. In addition, the Division seeks to provide women with access to non-traditional training opportunities and promote the participation of women of working age in the labour market. It also strives to preserve social cohesion and strengthening social cohesion through the complementary roles of men and women, thereby contributing to the development of a strong and cohesive society.
