Al-Zahraa Centre for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences Research in collaboration with the Division of Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Safety and Security, the Civil Defence Division, and the Department of Scientific Affairs, organised a specialised scientific workshop entitled: “Management of Nuclear Fallout Contamination Risks.” Furthermore, the said event was held under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Holy Imam Hussein Shrine, and with the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, the University President.

The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Lama Majeed Ahmed, the Director of the Centre, and Colonel (Chemical Specialist) Hassanein Hadi Al-Salami, Director of the Civil Defence Centre. It further addressed a range of precise scientific areas, focusing on the nature of risks associated with nuclear contamination, mechanisms of its spread, and its potential impacts on public health and the environment. In addition, it reviewed the latest scientifically recognised approaches in prevention, emergency response, and crisis management related to such hazards.

The workshop further highlighted the importance of strengthening chemical and radiological safety and security systems, as well as enhancing institutional preparedness for emergency incidents. This includes implementing established preventive measures and developing the capacities of personnel working in this vital field, in alignment with scientific standards and relevant international regulations.

It bears noting that this workshop comes as part and parcel of Al-Zahraa University for Women’s ongoing commitment to promoting specialised scientific awareness in the fields of chemical and radiological safety and security, and to consolidating the principles of prevention and risk management. Additionally, such efforts contribute to improving the competence of both academic and applied staff.
