Under the aegis of the President of Al-Zahraa University for Women, Prof. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, and in the presence of the Director General of Women's Affairs Department in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Yusra Al-Alaq, the Director of Women's Affairs Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Minister's Office, Dr. Fatima Al-Fadhli, the Dean of the Faculty of Education for Women at the University of Baghdad, Dr. Ithmar Al-Shatri, in addition to the participation of a group of academics and university students, Women's Affairs Division at Al-Zahraa University for Women held a gathering to celebrate International Women's Day at Um Abiha Hall in Al-Zahraa University.
The ceremony opened with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a mourning pause and the reading of Surat Al-Fatihah on the souls of Iraqi martyrs, and the national anthem. The President of the University delivered a speech expressing blessings and congratulations to Iraqi women on that anniversary and wished them well, explaining the status of women and their effective role and contribution to society building. The Director of Women's Affairs Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Minister's Office, Dr. Fatima Al-Fadhli also delivered a statement, followed by a speech by the Chief in charge of Women's Affairs Division at Al-Zahraa University, Eng. Amira Abbas Al-Ameri.
The ceremony included a video presentation on Women's Day, as well as artistic and educational events and performances presented by female students. Creative women and active female outstanding figures in society were honored by the President of Al-Zahraa University for women. The ceremony included also rewards from the President of the University of Baghdad (Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim), offered on his behalf by his representative, Dean of the College of Education for women to honor 35 distinguished female and exemplary students from Al-Zahraa University. An art exhibition and a bazaar were opened to display artistic drawings, creative and cultural works by the university female students in the central courtyard of the university.
It is noteworthy that Al-Zahraa University for women, affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, is one of the paramount institutions supporting purposeful feminist activities and events related to women’s affairs in a variety scientific, health, psychological, intellectual fields in addition to the upholding of moral values.
