Mrs. Hanan Faroq Mohammed, Secretary of the Central Library at Al-Zahraa University for women, partook in the activities of the Second International Specialized Conference on Information and Libraries, organized by Imam Abbass Holy Shrine, in cooperation with the universities of Mustansiriya, Mosul and Basra. This conference is one of the most prominent scientific conferences in the field of libraries and information, which aims to promote innovation and knowledge exchange between academic institutions and university libraries in Iraq and the region.
Throughout her participation, Mrs. Farouk underscored the constant commitment of Al-Zahraa University for women to the provision of outstanding and advanced services, in step with recent developments carried out by international libraries, that fulfill the needs of students and researchers via a variety of services from the availability of the latest paper books and modern publications produced by international publishing houses, as well as e-books, to thousands of titles and resources offered by huge and diverse libraries. Additionally, she also touched upon the provision of training on the use of academic databases to bolster scientific research with modern tools that facilitate information access.
Dr. Marwan Abdul Razzaq, representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and responsible for the University Library Development Division in the Research and Development Department, attended the conference. Prof. Dr. Saif Abdullah Al-Jabri, Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the International Federation of Library and Information Centers Associations (MENA/IFLA), also participated in the conference and gave a lecture on the latest trends in the management of university libraries and the importance of technology in the enhancement and upgrading of the efficiency and services of libraries. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of providing support to all university libraries that seek to develop their services in harmony with advanced global perspective.
For its part, the Presidency of Al-Zahraa University for Women affirmed its intention to benefit from this conference by using its outputs to advance its performance and services, notably those relevant to its Central Library. Consequently, the University puts emphasis on the ongoing application of best international practices used by advanced university libraries, to eventually turn into a pioneer of the field. Likewise, the University is also mindful of the need to update its technical infrastructure and foster its staff so as to ameliorate the services provided to students, faculty members and those interested in cultural affairs in general.
