Al-Zahraa University for Women inaugurated Nahjul-Balagha and Islamic Education Department in a ceremony that took place under the aegis of His Eminence Sheikh Abd Al-Mahdi Al-Karbalai, Legitimate Overseer of the affairs of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine. The event which was also organized under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani, President of the University, was attended by notable religious, scientific, and academic figures from departments of Islamic studies across Iraqi universities. The initiative was consistent with the University’s mission to nurture individuals and contribute to society and the nation. The ceremony began with a keynote address by Sheikh Abd Al-Mahdi Al-Karbalai, emphasizing that Nahjul-Balagha dovetailed with the wisdom of the Prophet of Mercy (peace be upon him). He further described the tome as an encyclopedic and guiding reference that must be imparted to students with clear objectives, enabling its application across various aspects of life. Additionally, Mr. Nabil Al-Hassani, head of Nahjul-Balagha Institution affiliated with the Holy Shrine, delivered a speech highlighting the collaborative efforts which culminated with the establishment of that pioneering Department—the first of its kind in Iraq—in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Mr. Al-Hassani was followed by Prof. Dr. Iman Samir Bahiyya, Dean of Education Faculty, who explained that the Department was intended to instill spiritual refinement and impart wisdom in conformity with the Islamic vision, the Prophetic message, as well as the recommendations of the Holy Shrine and in consonance with the principles of Al-Zahraa University for Women. Furthermore, Miss Dunia Nazem, a visually impaired student, recited passages from Nahjul-Balagha memorized through Braille, thanks to the support and guidance of her teachers and mentors from the Holy Shrine’s institutions. The event also featured various performances by female students, showcasing the profound teachings of Nahj al-Balagha. As the first department of its kind in Iraq, Nahjul-Balagha and Islamic Education Department has been set up with a view to enrich the academic community with advanced curricula rooted in the legacy of Imam Ali (PBUH). It bears noting that the Department seeks to promote the application of those teachings in the interpretation of Islamic law, reflection on the universe, and betterment of ethics and morality, ultimately benefiting society through dealings characterized with integrity and honor.
