Under the aegis of Prof. Dr Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, President of Al-Zahraa University for Women and the supervision of the Central Committee for Monitoring Environmental Awareness Activities and Programs, the events of Sustainability Week commenced with an awareness symposium titled “Towards Sustainable University Environment.” The symposium was led by Prof. Dr. Ali Jaafar Al-Husseini, Chair of the Central Committee, and attended by a slew of faculty members and female students from Engineering and Information Technology Faculty. The session underscored the significance of creating a sustainable University environment through awareness and the adoption of eco-friendly practices in daily life. Throughout the week, a series of campaigns targeted key areas such as campus afforestation, the expansion of green spaces, the reduction of plastic usage and its environmental risks, as well as the promotion of renewable energy and the development of innovative solutions to combat pollution. In a significant move to enhance academic environmental awareness, the University issued a directive to integrate sustainability-related topics into graduation projects, encouraging female students to propose scientific solutions that would contribute to long-term environmental advancement. It is significant to observe that these activities are part and parcel of the University’s ongoing commitment to disseminate environmental awareness and promote practices with a view to protect the environment both within and beyond the University campus.
