Al-Zahraa University for Women attended a literary gathering held in honour of the distinguished poet and writer Ouda Dhahi Al-Tamimi. The said event was organised by the Karbala Centre for Studies and Research at Imam Hussein Holy Shrine.
The session was attended on behalf of the University by Prof. Hanan Farouq Al-Saadi, Head of the Central Library Division. The gathering highlighted the poet’s rich literary career and his significant achievements, with particular emphasis on his contribution to the art of Hussaini poetry.
The event was also attended by a number of intellectuals and poets, including Prof. Salam Al-Bannai, Head of the Karbala Branch of the Iraqi Writers and Authors Union.
During the session, participants reviewed Al-Tamimi’s literary accomplishments, which include the publication of numerous books and poetry collections throughout his career. His body of work comprises fifteen poetry collections, divided between classical Arabic poetry and popular poetry. Among his notable works is Illuminating Candles, a collection of devotional poems expressing love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and elegies dedicated to poets and reciters who served Ahl Al-Bayt and have since passed away.
Ouda Dhahi Al-Tamimi was born in Karbala in 1948. He is a member of both the Iraqi and Arab Writers’ Unions and the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate. He began composing platform poetry in 1967 and later worked in journalism as editor of literary pages for several Iraqi newspapers.
