Lecturer Assistant Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Naeem published the research entitled
“Influence of different factors duration of disease, gender education, patients’ history, job and age in metformin response in type 2 diabetes mellitus patient”
in “Wiadomości Lekarskie Medical Advances” Journal which is classified within the (Scopus) containers (Q4)
This study aimed to analyze the effect of a group of demographic and social factors
factors as well as medical history on the response of type 2
diabetes patients to treatment with metformin.
A cross-sectional study was conducted that included 150 participants aged between 30 and 70 years, diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and taking 1000 mg of metformin as a monotherapy for a period of no less than three months. Data collected included HbA1c, FBS, fasting insulin levels, Homeostatic Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), and insulin sensitivity.
The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences between positive and negative responses to metformin treatment based on several demographic variables (p ≥ 0.05). However, patient history and illness duration were observed to have an impact on treatment response.
