Dr. Dhia’ Raheem Al-Tamimi, Pharmacy Faculty member at Al-Zahraa University for Women, has published a scientific research paper in International Journal of Applied Pharmaceutics (Scopus-indexed, Q2). The research paper explores the utilization of 6-thioguanine-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (TG-NLCs) for targeted breast cancer therapy.
The study employed advanced techniques, including hot homogenization and ultrasonic dispersion to develop an optimized nano-carrier drug system. The selected formulation, TG03, exhibited promising results concerning particle size, encapsulation efficiency, as well as cytotoxicity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Additionally, it demonstrated sustained drug release over 48 hours, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of targeted tumor therapy.
The said research underscores the potential of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) as an innovative drug delivery system, offering improved tumor targeting while reducing the side effects associated with conventional breast cancer treatments.
