Coinciding with the celebration of International Pi Day, the Mathematics Department, Faculty of Education, at Al-Zahraa University for Women, in collaboration with Karbala University and Imam Hussein Centre for Development and Education, organised the second Pi Day Festival. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, the University President, Dr. Haider Al-Tamimi, the Head of University Education Authority, alongside distinguished academics and leading mathematicians from various Iraqi universities, attended the said event.
The festival sought to highlight the applications of mathematics and its fundamental role in diverse aspects of life, while also inspiring students to approach the discipline with diligence and enthusiasm.
The program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a scientific lecture delivered by Asst. Prof. Amjad Hamid Al-Husseini, and a joint exhibition showcasing student activities. Besides, a special contribution from Al-Zahraa University female students featured posters and brochures on research published in Scopus- and Clarivate-indexed journals, prepared by academics from both universities. The festival concluded with the recognition of outstanding participants, who were awarded the Medal of Creativity and Excellence.
It is worth mentioning that despite being a relatively young institution in the Iraqi higher education landscape, the University has successfully organised a slew of scientific symposia, cultural events, as well as academic festivals, thus positioning itself among reputable universities and steadily advancing towards its educational and societal objectives.
