The Central Library of Al-Zahraa University for Women has officially joined the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), one of the world’s leading international organisations in the field of libraries and information services, and the official representative body for librarians and information professionals in more than 150 countries worldwide.

This milestone forms part of the University’s comprehensive strategy to strengthen its academic presence at both regional and international levels, and to enhance the quality of information and library services provided to female students and researchers in line with the latest global standards.

IFLA aims to promote international understanding and to support scientific research and professional development in the field of library and information science. Additionally, its scope of work encompasses bibliography, information management, and the training and qualification of specialised professionals to serve as effective representatives within international forums. In addition, the Federation seeks to establish high-level standards for library acquisition and infrastructure, reinforce the fundamental role of libraries in society, and expand cooperation with international organisations in the areas of documentation and archiving.

The University’s membership is represented through participation in the Academic and Research Libraries Section, alongside the Government Libraries Section and the Health and Biosciences Libraries Section. This engagement is intended to strengthen communication with the global library community and to benefit from International expertise and standards in the development of academic facilities and services.

Furthermore, this membership represents a significant qualitative milestone, reflecting the University’s commitment to fostering an integrated academic environment, enhancing the quality of information and academic services offered to female students and researchers, and strengthening its standing among international academic institutions. It also aligns with the University’s objectives of supporting scientific research, developing the capacities of its academic staff, and achieving excellence in educational and library services in accordance with the highest international standards.
