The College of Engineering Shines Across Iraq: Third Place Nationally
Under the patronage of the President of Al-Zahraa University for Women, Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani, the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology, Prof. Dr. Ghaidaa Al-Mulla, and the follow-up of the Media and Government Communication Division at the college, the university achieved a remarkable accomplishment through its participation in the “Challenge and Creativity” competition for Iraqi universities, which was held at Noor University in Mosul Governorate. The university qualified among the top 19 universities out of 40 participating public and private Iraqi universities and secured third place among the qualified universities nationwide.
The participation came through students from the College of Engineering in the competition organized by the Scout Division of the Student Activities Department at the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The students presented a project titled “Re Turath,” a digital initiative aimed at reviving Iraqi heritage in a modern and interactive way by showcasing archaeological and historical sites using contemporary digital tools and technologies that connect the past with the present.
The team selected the theme of cultures, history, and heritage due to the importance of heritage as part of national identity and civilizational memory. Work began with designing a digital model of the “Taq Kasra” as the project’s initial prototype, with future plans to expand the platform to include other archaeological sites across Iraq.
The competition activities featured a diverse program that included a tour of the city of Mosul and a visit to its historical museum, in addition to the opening ceremony at Noor University, a cultural trip to Duhok, and finally the closing ceremony and announcement of the final results.
The team included the following students:
- Nabaa Qutaiba Mardan – Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering / Third Year
- Aya Ahmed Al Alou – Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering / Second Year
- Batool Ali Safi Ali – Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering / Third Year
- Rusul Abdul Rasool – Department of Architecture Engineering / Second Year
- Rasha Thamer Malik Hashim Al-Mousawi – Department of Architecture Engineering / Second Year
This achievement reflects the scientific excellence and creativity of the students of the College of Engineering and Information Technology, as well as their ability to present projects that combine technological innovation with the preservation of Iraqi cultural heritage in a contemporary manner that embodies the spirit of creativity and academic distinction.
