The Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Education organised the Fourth Annual Forum marking World Arabic Language Day under the slogan “Arabic Language Between Identity Empowerment and Civilisational Communication.” The said event was held on Monday, 19 December 2022, and held under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, President of Al-Zahraa University for Women, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Iman Bahiyya, Dean of the Faculty of Education.
The forum was attended by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hussein Al-Yasin, President of the Iraqi Academy of Sciences; Prof. Dr. Sahib Abu Janah, Member of the Iraqi Academy of Sciences; Dr. Ala' Dia' Al-Din, Deputy Secretary-General of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine; in addition to presidents of Universities, deans of faculties, and academics representing numerous Iraqi higher education institutions.
The scientific forum featured the presentation and discussion of a wide range of research papers and studies on the Arabic language submitted by scholars from within Iraq and abroad. These contributions addressed specialised linguistic and grammatical issues, highlighting contemporary developments in Arabic language studies and making the latest scholarly findings accessible to researchers and interested audiences.
During the forum, Dr. Al-Din delivered a keynote address in which he emphasised the Shrine’s longstanding commitment to preserving and promoting the language of the Holy Qur’an. He highlighted its role as a fundamental component of Arab identity and cultural heritage, noting that the educational initiatives of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine extend from kindergartens and schools to Universities, with the aim of safeguarding the Arabic language and protecting its authentic identity from challenges that seek to undermine it.
It goes without saying that the University continues to pursue its academic and educational mission through the organisation of scientific forums, conferences, and seminars, in addition to establishing cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding with distinguished Universities at the local, Arab, and international levels. These initiatives contribute to advancing academic excellence, strengthening research, and enhancing the scientific and practical development of students and academics in the service of the wider community.
