Under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein and the supervision of the President of Al-Zahraa University for Women, the university held its annual memorial service to mark the holy month of Muharram and the eternal Battle of Al-Taff, a symbol of dignity and everlasting victory. The event was held under the banner: “And to you, hearts are drawn... because you are Al-Hussein ”
In his lecture during the gathering, His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed Al-Safi, Head of the Religious Affairs Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, emphasized the greatness of Imam Hussein’s (peace be upon him) revolution and its pivotal role in preserving Islam. He underscored the importance of continuing to follow in Hussein’s footsteps in resisting injustice, stating that commemorating such gatherings is a renewal of our covenant with the Imam and his enduring spirit of reform.
Sheikh Al-Safi also highlighted that the immortality of Imam Hussein’s revolution is deeply tied to the unwavering stance of Lady Zainab (peace be upon her), who faced hardship with faith and strength. He stressed that the Zainabi veil is a powerful symbol of this legacy—an act of patience, honor, and a living embodiment of Karbala’s message and loyalty to the mission of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
In her speech, Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, President of the University, expressed pride in the university community’s participation in commemorating this profound occasion. She noted that the Ashura gathering is not merely a religious event, but a holistic school of patience, resilience, willpower, and reform. She also emphasized the role of academic institutions in instilling the values of Imam Hussein’s revolution in future generations by nurturing a conscious and faithful identity.
This annual memorial underscores the university’s ongoing role, along with its staff and students, in upholding Islamic and human values through organizing events that reinforce the principles of patience, perseverance, and loyalty to the path of Ahl al-Bayt. It also aims to empower individuals to carry the message of Karbala and emulate Lady Zainab’s legacy in their daily responsibilities and missions.
