Al-Zahraa University for Women received a high-level delegation from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), headed by Dr. Yusra Al-Allaag, and comprising a group of specialists in girls’ and women’s empowerment programmes, including Dr. Majd Basim, a health specialist, and Ms. Mehrinaz Magdassi, UNICEF’s Women’s Affairs Advisor. The visit aimed to gain insight into Imam Hussein Holy Shrine’s projects and to learn more about the University’s efforts in supporting women’s education and providing an outstanding academic environment.

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani, President of the University, accompanied by the senior University staff and a number of department heads. In her welcome remarks, Dr. Al-Sultani affirmed the importance of this visit in strengthening cooperation to support Muslim women and female university students.

The visit began with a comprehensive tour of the University’s facilities, including specialised scientific laboratories, the Central Library, the on-campus nursery for staff children, and the female student dormitories within the University grounds. The delegation was briefed on the modern academic resources, infrastructure, and advanced learning environment that the University provides to its female students.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Sultani presented an in-depth overview of the University’s history, mission, and future vision of the University, highlighting its role in developing female students’ personalities and preparing them academically and professionally to meet labour market demands. She also underlined the University’s dedication to creating a comprehensive educational environment that nurtures leadership and creativity among female students, in line with the Holy Shrine’s vision for education and women’s empowerment.

The UNICEF delegation expressed their appreciation for the University’s high academic standards, administrative organisation, and clear vision demonstrated in the University’s approach to empowering women and girls. Besides, they commended the projects of the Holy Shrine, affirming the organisation’s interest in strengthening collaboration with the University through joint programmes and initiatives.

Al-Zahraa University for Women emphasised that this visit marks a promising step towards building international partnerships that support education and women’s empowerment, while boosting the University’s presence in educational and humanitarian arenas.
