The Department of English at the College of Education, University of Al-Zahraa (peace be upon her) for Women, organized a scientific symposium entitled: “Critical Stylistics: An Approach to Ideological Implication” on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. in Umm Abiha Hall.
The symposium was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Wafaa Abbas Sahan, Head of the English Department, who delivered her lecture entitled “Prioritizing and Ideological Manifestations: A Critical Stylistic View.”
Following this, Lecturer Azhar Hassan Saloumi from the University of Karbala presented on “Critical Stylistics and Critical Discourse Analysis as Basic Critical Approaches in Linguistics.”
Afterwards, Mr. Ali Hussein Abdul Ameer, also from the University of Karbala, gave a lecture on “Critical Stylistics: Ideology and Naturalization in Both Literary and Non-Literary Texts.”
The symposium was attended by Prof. Dr. Iman Bahiya, Dean of the College of Education, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Kazem Al-Maamouri, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, faculty members of the English Department, and a group of students.
Discussions centered on key concepts of critical stylistics as a methodological framework for uncovering hidden ideologies within texts, particularly through structural analysis.
The session concluded with an open discussion and questions from participants. At the close of the event, the Dean of the College of Education presented certificates of appreciation to all contributors in recognition of their efforts.
