In a spirit of hospitality and to strengthen bonds among new students, the Department of English at the College of Education, University of Al-Zahraa (peace be upon her) for Women, in cooperation with the Department of Student Activities, organized a Welcoming Ceremony for First-Year Students for the academic year 2022–2023. The event took place on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in Umm Abiha Hall.

The ceremony was attended by the University President, the Vice Presidents for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, the Dean of the College of Education, faculty members of the English Department, and a large gathering of students.

The program featured several segments, beginning with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by student Maryam Malik, followed by the performance of the national anthem.

University President Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani delivered a thoughtful address, warmly welcoming the faculty and students. She was followed by Prof. Dr. Iman Bahiya, Dean of the College of Education, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Wafaa Abbas Sahan, Head of the English Department, both of whom shared words of encouragement and welcome.

Students also took an active role in the celebration: Jinan Aqeel, Zahraa Ghanem, and Zahraa Madlul delivered motivational speeches reflecting on real-life experiences, while Fatima Jassim recited a poem in English.

The event concluded with an engaging competition in English, prepared and presented by Lecturer Rasha Ali Abdul-Abbas, which added an interactive and joyful touch to the gathering.
