The Department of Arabic Language held a practical workshop entitled “Arabic Calligraphy”, delivered by Prof. Dr. Hamid Al-Safi. The said event was under the auspices of the esteemed President of Al-Zahraa University for Women, and under the supervision of the esteemed Dean of the Faculty of Education and the Head of the Department of Arabic Language.

The workshop commenced with a theoretical introduction to Arabic calligraphy, tracing its historical development and highlighting its various forms, including Kufic, Naskh, Thuluth, Persian, and Ruq‘ah scripts. Following this, the practical component focused on the principles of Ruq‘ah calligraphy, beginning with the use of one- and two-point measurements, and progressing to the formation of individual letters, connected letters, and medial forms.

It bears noting that participants were provided with calligraphy pens to engage in hands-on practice, with direct supervision and guidance offered by Dr. Al-Safi throughout the session.
