Al-Zahraa University (PBUH) for Women has secured an advanced position in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for Sustainability, ranking 418th globally among participating universities. This achievement reflects the university’s sustained efforts to promote sustainability practices and implement internationally recognized environmental management standards.

At the national level, the university recorded a notable presence by ranking 12th among Iraqi public and private universities included in the classification, and 5th among private universities.

This accomplishment is the result of a range of developmental initiatives adopted by the university in recent years. These include upgrading energy systems to improve efficiency and reduce emissions, enhancing water and waste management through advanced conservation, treatment, and reuse systems, expanding green spaces to strengthen the campus’s sustainable environmental identity, and supporting educational and research programs related to environmental studies and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The UI GreenMetric ranking is one of the most prominent international indicators for assessing universities based on sustainability criteria. It covers comprehensive dimensions such as infrastructure, energy and climate change, water, waste, transportation, education, and research, giving the results significant value as a global benchmark for environmental and academic performance.

Through this achievement, Al-Zahraa University (PBUH) for Women reaffirms its ongoing commitment to developing its campus environment and strengthening sustainability practices, enhancing its position as a leading academic institution that actively contributes to sustainable development pathways and community service.
