Under the patronage of the General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein and under the supervision of the President of Al-Zahraa University (peace be upon her) for Women, Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, the Department of Art Education, in cooperation with the Student Activities Department, held its annual art festival under the slogan “Committed Art… An Idea and a Message.”
The festival opened with an art exhibition showcasing a distinguished selection of works produced by faculty members and students. The exhibited pieces included paintings, sculptures, and applied artworks, reflecting the department’s vision of fostering creativity and developing aesthetic sensibility while linking art to authentic values and lofty educational goals.
In her address, Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani expressed her pride in the high artistic standard of the works on display, commending the efforts of the Deanship of the College of Education and the department’s leadership in organizing an event that reflects the university’s mission inspired by the values of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). She affirmed that such achievements constitute a fundamental pillar in serving and preserving the cultural identity of society.
For his part, the Head of the Department of Art Education, Assist. Prof. Aouni Hadi Al-Rubaie, delivered a speech outlining the philosophy of the festival, emphasizing the importance of committed art and its essential role in reinforcing values and building societal awareness. He noted that through these activities, the department seeks to prepare a generation that believes in the role of art in serving the community.
In a gesture of appreciation, the Department of Art Education presented the President of the University with the “Golden Creativity Necklace,” in recognition of her continuous support for creative activities and her sustained patronage of university talents.
The program also included a specialized academic lecture entitled “The Relationship Between Art and Mathematics,” delivered by the Dean of the College of Education, Prof. Dr. Iman Samir Bahiyah, in which she highlighted the cognitive interconnection between the arts and applied sciences, citing international examples such as the work of artist Jackson Pollock.
The festival reaffirms the Department of Art Education’s commitment to organizing meaningful and knowledge-based activities that contribute to refining students’ skills and developing their creative abilities, in line with Al-Zahraa University’s mission to build a cultured, aware generation that believes in the role of art in promoting human and cultural values.
