The Bologna Process in Higher Education… a Training Course Enhancing Quality Standards and Academic Modernization

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani, President of Al-Zahra University (peace be upon her) for Women, and supervised by Prof. Dr. Ghidaa Al-Mulla, Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology, and in collaboration with the Continuing Education Center, the Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering organized a five-day training course titled “The Bologna Process in Higher Education.” The course was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Heba Jabbar Al-Aqabi, Head of the Department, and Lecturer Zahraa Shehab, with the participation of faculty members and students, as part of the college’s efforts to adopt modern educational systems and enhance academic performance.

The course provided a scientific overview of the Bologna Process as an international framework for standardizing higher education systems and improving the quality of academic programs. It emphasized the adoption of the three-cycle degree system and the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), contributing to the development of educational outcomes, alignment with labor market needs, and international recognition of university degrees.

The course also discussed mechanisms for implementing the Bologna Process in Iraqi universities, particularly in curriculum development, quality assurance enhancement, and increasing student and graduate mobility between academic institutions. It highlighted the importance of promoting the Bologna culture and preparing the university environment for its application, thereby improving the quality of education and its outcomes.
