Under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, and supervised by University President Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, alongside the administration of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Prof. Dr. Ghayda Abd Al-Hussein, the Bayyinah Centre for Intellectual and Cultural Security, in cooperation with Al-Zahraa University for Women, organized a specialized scientific workshop titled "Civilizational Engineering and Visual Identity." The session was presented by Dr. Wi’am Karim Al-Mousawi, an Archaeologist at the centre, and Dr. Haider Naji, a faculty member in the Department of Architectural Engineering.
The session was opened by His Eminence Sheikh Ali Al-Qar'awi, Head of the Intellectual Affairs Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, with a speech in which he emphasized the importance of cementing civilizational identity concepts within academic circles. He stressed the necessity of utilizing these principles across various scientific fields, particularly in engineering and architectural disciplines.
The workshop featured a scientific presentation that focused on the theoretical aspect. Dr. Wi’am Karim Al-Mousawi addressed the historical and intellectual dimensions of the visual identity concept, its connection to the civilizational roots of societies, and its role in shaping the features of architectural culture. Meanwhile, Dr. Haider Naji reviewed the theoretical foundations of civilizational engineering as a methodological framework concerned with integrating civilizational values into design processes, thereby achieving a balance between authenticity and modernization.
This workshop is part of Al-Zahraa University for Women's efforts to enhance academic awareness of civilizational concepts and support integration between theoretical and practical aspects. These initiatives contribute to preparing specialized cadres capable of comprehending these concepts and employing them in the fields of engineering and architectural design.
