The University President Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani participated in the conference held to announce the success of the first two liver transplant surgeries performed simultaneously in Iraq. This medical milestone took place at Imam Zain Al-Abidin Hospital, affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain in Karbala.
The conference was attended by His Eminence, the Legal Custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, Sheikh Abd Al-Mahdi Al-Karbalai, the Governor of Holy Karbala, Dr. Nassif Jassim Al-Khattabi, and a group of prominent religious, medical, and academic figures.
The event featured a detailed review of the milestone and the collaborative endeavors exerted by medical, health, and technical staff to ensure the success of both operations. It further highlighted the cutting-edge techniques adopted during the surgeries, reflecting the sophisticated standard achieved by the healthcare sector within the Holy Shrine's institutions.
In his address, Sheikh Al-Karbalai emphasized the significance of sustaining support for specialized medical ventures and providing an advanced therapeutic environment to serve citizens, praising the exceptional efforts that culminated in this breakthrough.
Additionally, the Governor of Karbala affirmed that the local government remains keen on supporting the province's healthcare sector, capitalizing on the successes achieved by the Holy Shrine's institutions, which work hand in hand with public entities.
For her part, the President of ZUW stated that this achievement represents a qualitative leap in advancing specialized health services in Iraq, particularly in organ transplantation. She noted that the university continues to equip the community with highly qualified healthcare graduates from its faculties, capable of rendering high-impact service to society.
This triumph is an extension of the pivotal role played by the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain in reinforcing the healthcare landscape. By sponsoring specialized medical initiatives, expanding therapeutic and educational facilities, and provisioning them with the latest technologies, the institution continues to deliver medical services according to the highest global standards.
