Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani, the University President, met with Eng. Naseef Jassim Al-Khattabi, Governor of Holy Karbala. The said meeting was conducted to discuss the commencement of an electric pedestrian bridge project on the road opposite the University, which forms part of the route linking Karbala Governorate with the capital, Baghdad.
Eng. Hassan Al-Sharifi, Director of Karbala Municipality, attended the said meeting to discuss a number of technical details and engineering requirements necessary for the implementation of the project. The bridge forms part of a broader plan that includes the construction of four additional electric pedestrian bridges.
The project is considered one of the key public service initiatives to be implemented across various locations in the city centre. Additionally, the bridges will be equipped with electric lifts for elderly people and individuals with disabilities, as well as internal cooling systems and a range of modern facilities.
For her part, Prof. Dr. Al-Sultani expressed her appreciation to the local government for supporting service-oriented projects that contribute to the public good. She further noted that the bridge would help protect the lives of citizens, facilitate safe and smooth pedestrian movement, and ensure the safety of female students while crossing the road.
During the meeting, Governor Al-Khattabi commended the role of Al-Zahraa University for Women in advancing women’s higher education and academic development. He described the University as one of Karbala’s distinguished landmarks, being the first of its kind as a private University in Iraq dedicated exclusively to women.
He also praised the achievements realised through the cooperation of the local government and the Holy shrines in implementing academic, service, and healthcare projects across the governorate. Furthermore, he commended Prof. Dr. Al-Sultani’s commitment to the academic standards of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the quality of the University’s curricula despite its relatively recent establishment.
