Al-Zahraa University for Women welcomed an Egyptian media delegation on the sidelines of the Arab Summit held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The delegation was led by Prof. Mohammed Sabreen, Managing Editor of Al-Ahram newspaper, accompanied by advisor Prof. Miqdad Al-Noori, Deputy of the Political Planning Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Department of Public and Cultural Diplomacy, and Prof. Haider Al-Mankoushi, Director of the International Media Centre of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine.
The purpose of the visit was to become acquainted with the University’s journey and capabilities. The event further included a guided tour of the University’s premises, during which the delegation was briefed on the University’s founding history and development. Prof. Dr. Ali Ja’afar Al-Husseini, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, gave a comprehensive presentation outlining the University’s faculties and academic programs, stressing its mission to support female students from all Iraqi provinces without discrimination.
During the visit, the delegation expressed interest in the University’s funding model. Officials clarified that the institution operates on a non-profit basis and offers a range of scholarships and tuition reductions, affirming its core mission of disseminating knowledge and making education accessible to all. The visit also highlighted the “Study in Iraq” initiative launched by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in 2023, which offers Arab and international female students the opportunity to study free of charge through dedicated scholarships.
The visiting delegation expressed their pleasure in visiting the holy city of Karbala and touring its sacred sites. They emphasized that the visit provided an opportunity to convey an authentic portrayal of the realities on the ground, especially the notable advancements in this prominent academic institution. The delegation paid tribute to the University’s academic model, affirming that it possesses the qualities necessary to be a significant player in the higher education sector, not only in Iraq but also across the Arab world.
