As part and parcel of its efforts to strengthen academic collaboration and exchange expertise in the educational journey, Al-Zahraa University for Women hosted Prof. Dr. Iman Samir Bahiyya from the Education Faculty for Pure Sciences, University of Babylon, who delivered a lecture entitled “What Does Mathematics Say About Usain Bolt?” The said event was attended by faculty members and female students of the Mathematics Department, Faculty of Education, and was held in Umm Abiha Hall at the University’s main campus.
Additionally, Prof. Bahiyya affirmed that the sequence of world records in the 100-metre sprint could be considered a real, decreasing sequence that tends to converge towards zero.
She further explained that the lecture presented a mathematical formula capable of predicting record-breaking times over a defined period by modelling the 100-metre sprint, in addition to testing the formula against actual world records and examining the physiology of the human body and its capabilities.
The session also discussed the results obtained from applying the logistic function as part of the practical system of tests.
It bears noting that Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter recognised as the fastest human in history and the first to win seven Olympic gold medals in short-distance track events. Additionally, due to his extraordinary achievements, the media has famously nicknamed him “Lightning Bolt.”
