The Department of Scientific Affairs in collaboration with the University’s Centre for Continuing Education organised a scientific symposium titled “The Competencies of Drinking Water Treatment Plants in Removing Disease-Causing Contaminants.” The event was under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, the University President. This event forms part of the University’s ongoing efforts to strengthen scientific research and facilitate the exchange of practical expertise between academics and specialists.

The symposium featured contributions from the Director of the Department of Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ali Ja’far Al-Husseini, and Prof. Dr. Ala’ Hussein Wadi, who delivered specialised lectures addressing the scientific and technical dimensions of water treatment processes. Additionally, the presentations highlighted methods for monitoring and removing microbial and chemical contaminants that may pose risks to public health.

The symposium also included a detailed presentation of recent scientific studies and the latest global technologies applied in drinking water treatment, in addition to practical strategies and recommendations aimed at enhancing the efficiency of local treatment plants, thereby ensuring the provision of safe and healthy water for the community.

This symposium comes as part and parcel of a series of scientific initiatives organised by Al-Zahraa University, aimed at promoting scientific research, transferring practical expertise, and expanding opportunities for collaboration between academics and professionals in various fields. It further contributes to disseminating scientific culture among female students and encouraging them to engage with modern innovations and technologies, enhancing their capacity for creativity and enabling them to play an active role in advancing key sectors in society, particularly those related to public health and the environment.
