The hijab is not merely an outward appearance; rather, it is an expression of a firmly rooted creed, a spiritual value, and an Islamic identity whose authenticity stems from religion and is grounded in a system of principles and values that shape Muslim women’s awareness, choices, and outlook on life.

A woman whose life is guided by her faith and who takes pride in her religion and culture understands that her identity is neither a pattern imposed upon her nor an image copied from others. Instead, it is a conscious sense of belonging that she expresses through conviction and preserves by remaining steadfast in her principles. From this perspective, the hijab becomes an act of religious devotion that reflects her connection to her faith, her commitment to what she believes in, and her pride in her Islamic identity.

In a world witnessing rapidly accelerating cultural and intellectual transformations, openness does not mean abandoning fundamental principles, just as preserving one’s identity does not mean isolating oneself from the world. Intercultural dialogue and the exchange of knowledge do not require assimilation into a single culture or relinquishing one’s religious and moral distinctiveness. Rather, they are founded on respect for diversity and the preservation of every individual’s right to take pride in their identity.

At the College of Engineering and Information Technology, Al-Zahraa University for Women, we believe that empowering women academically and intellectually goes hand in hand with strengthening their understanding of their faith and their pride in their Islamic identity. Muslim women are capable of creativity, innovation, and excellence, drawing strength from their faith, remaining committed to their values, and confidently shaping the future without compromising who they are or the principles they uphold.

Every person has an identity… and my hijab is mine.
