The Department of English at the College of Education, Al-Zahraa (A.S.) University for Women, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center, organized an interactive workshop entitled “Listen, Learn, Speak.” The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Wurood Hashim Sahib, a faculty member of the department, with the participation of a number of students.
The workshop aimed to develop English listening skills and promote their use as an effective tool for improving overall language proficiency. It also sought to enhance students’ ability to comprehend spoken English and communicate confidently in various situations.
The workshop addressed effective listening strategies and techniques for identifying main ideas and supporting details in spoken texts. It also highlighted methods for acquiring new vocabulary and expressions, strengthening the connection between listening and speaking skills, and improving pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation through repetition and imitation.
The workshop featured a series of interactive activities and practical exercises that enabled participants to practice their listening and speaking skills and apply newly acquired vocabulary and linguistic structures in everyday situations. These activities aimed to help students move beyond merely hearing the language toward understanding and using it accurately and confidently.
This workshop forms part of the College of Education’s ongoing efforts to develop students’ language skills and promote interactive and practical learning approaches, contributing to improved academic achievement and enhanced communicative competence in English.
