As part of the ongoing efforts to support scientific research and strengthen the academic presence of the College of Health and Medical Technologies, Prof. Dr. Hamed Ibrahim Aboud Al-Tamimi, Head of the Department of Cosmetology and Laser Technologies, has co-authored a scientific research paper entitled:
“Manufacturing and Ameliorating the Features of Silicon Carbide-Silicon Nitride Futuristic Nanomaterials Doped Organic Polymer for Flexible Optoelectronics and Photonics Applications.”
The paper was published in Silicon, an international scientific journal published by Springer Nature and indexed in Scopus and Web of Science’s Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE).
The study investigates the fabrication and optical and structural properties of nanocomposite films based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) incorporated with silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) nanoparticles. The research aims to evaluate the potential of these materials for emerging applications in optoelectronics and flexible photonics.
The findings demonstrate notable improvements in the optical properties of the prepared nanocomposite films. At a nanoparticle concentration of 3.9 wt.%, the study reported an approximately 90% enhancement in optical absorption at a wavelength of 320 nm and a 95.7% enhancement at 800 nm. The optical conductivity also improved by approximately 94.3% at 320 nm, highlighting the potential of these nanocomposite materials for advanced optical applications.
These findings suggest potential applications in near-infrared sensing, ultraviolet shielding, and other optoelectronic and photonic technologies. The study contributes to ongoing research into the development of advanced nanocomposite materials with enhanced optical performance and broader technological applications.
The paper was published online on December 2, 2025, and appears in Silicon, Volume 18 (2026), pages 321–334. The co-authors are Aseel Hadi, Ahmed Hashim, and Najah M. L. Al Maimuri.
