Under the patronage of the President of Al-Zahraa University for Women, Professor Dr. Zainab Al-Sultani, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Health and Medical Technologies, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Al-Khafaji, the College of Health and Medical Technologies organized an awareness workshop titled “Breast Self-Examination (BSE)”, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Fatima Rahim Abd from the Department of Anesthesia Technologies.
The workshop addressed the concept of breast self-examination as a simple preventive practice performed regularly by women to examine breast tissue and detect any abnormal changes at an early stage. It emphasized the role of this practice in enhancing health awareness and in identifying lumps or changes in shape, skin, or the nipple.
The lecturer explained that this examination is recommended on a monthly basis, stressing that it does not replace specialized medical screenings such as mammography and clinical examinations, but rather serves as a complementary measure.
The workshop concluded by highlighting the importance of early detection in increasing treatment success rates and reducing complications associated with breast diseases, particularly Breast Cancer. It also emphasized that raising awareness about this practice is a fundamental component of public health programs targeting women.
