Al-Zahraa University for Women took part in the proceedings of the Global Compact for Migration Conference, held in Baghdad under the motto “Towards Inclusive and Sustainable Governance of Migration”. The said event was in line with its ongoing commitment to strengthening its scientific and societal engagement. Additionally, the event was organised by the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, with the participation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The University was represented by Prof. Dr. Ali Ja’far Al-Husseini, Director of the Department of Scientific Affairs.
The conference was attended by Her Excellency Ms. Evan Fa’eq, Minister of Migration and Displacement; Mr. Mohammed Hassan, Representative of the United Nations in Iraq; Mr. Ali Hilal, Advisor to the Prime Minister; alongside senior officials, diplomats, heads of international organisations, Iraqi civil society representatives, and volunteer groups.
The discussions highlighted the achievements of the Global Compact for Migration, the challenges faced by Iraq, and the opportunities available for policymakers to identify and address gaps. Furthermore, key themes included irregular migration, mechanisms to strengthen regular migration pathways, integrated border management, protection measures, and the developmental benefits of regulated migration, ensuring that no individual is left without support.
During its contribution, the University underscored the private sector's vital role in supporting migration policies, particularly through the recruitment and empowerment of academic talent to serve society. The University further emphasised its active role in nurturing scholarly capacities within a reputable research environment.
