Dr. Hussein Saleh Abdul-Garawi, a faculty member in the Department of Art Education at the College of Education, Al-Zahraa University (PBUH) for Women, delivered two academic and artistic lectures in the United Kingdom, the first at Durham University and the second at the Iraqi Cultural Council in London. The lectures highlighted his artistic experience in sculpture and explored the relationship between Mesopotamia’s cultural heritage and contemporary visual arts.
During his lecture at Durham University, Dr. Abdul-Garawi discussed his sculptural experience and the role of monuments in reflecting cultural identity. His second lecture, held at the Iraqi Cultural Council under the title “Bronze Casting Traditions in Mesopotamia: When Art Returns After Five Thousand Years,” explored the historical roots of bronze casting techniques. He also introduced his project, “Nippur Foundry,” in Diwaniyah and presented several of his artistic works, including a sculpture commemorating the centenary of the Iraqi judiciary.
These participations reflect the College of Education’s commitment to strengthening its academic and cultural presence at international forums, promoting Iraq’s rich artistic and civilizational heritage, and highlighting the contributions of the university’s faculty members to fostering academic and cultural exchange with international institutions.
