Al-Zahraa University for Women participated in a scientific seminar held at Al-Hassan Al-Mujtaba Teaching Hospital, focusing on addiction in psychiatric medicine and its effects on individuals and society.
Representing the University, Dr Hassan Hadi Al-Qazzaz, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Technologies, attended the seminar. Additionally, the seminar addressed several key aspects of the growing phenomenon of drug abuse, its prevalence in Iraq, and the measures undertaken by relevant authorities to address this pressing issue.
The seminar also examined the factors contributing to the spread of addiction, highlighting poverty, lack of education, weakened religious and moral values, and the increasing prevalence of crime and social misconduct as among the principal causes.
Furthermore, shedding light on the importance of coordinated efforts among concerned institutions and stakeholders to combat this dangerous phenomenon through all available ways and means. The discussions further underscored the need for effective legislation and deterrent measures to curb addiction and address the moral and social consequences associated with it.
