As part and parcel of its ongoing commitment to academic research and scholarship, Al-Zahraa University for Women hosted an awareness seminar titled “Integrity in Scientific Publishing.” The said event was held under the direct supervision of the University’s presidency and the auspices of the General Secretariat of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, attended by a select group of distinguished professors, researchers, as well as postgraduate students. The seminar was led by Prof. Dr. Nather Najm Abdullah, a faculty member at the Pharmacy Faculty, who shed light on the significance of adhering to ethical standards in the publication of research and scientific studies.
Additionally, the seminar emphasized that ethics in scientific publishing are fundamental to establishing a trustworthy research environment. It also underlined the crucial role of academic staff in shaping a future that prioritizes knowledge through honest and transparent research practices. Besides, participants were reminded that a lack of integrity in publishing not only undermines the credibility of individual researchers but also tarnishes the reputation of the academic institutions they represent.
Furthermore, the seminar addressed the growing significance of global indexing databases, particularly Scopus, which employs rigorous criteria for accepting research publications. This situation calls for a strict commitment to internationally recognized standards of scientific integrity.
The event further highlighted the urgent need to cultivate a culture of academic honesty from the early stages of University education. This approach is essential for ensuring the sustainability of knowledge and the development of a comprehensive scientific community capable of effectively contributing to the goals of higher education and research. Ultimately, fostering such a culture will empower the country to align itself with scientifically advanced nations across various disciplines.
