Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Zainab Al-Mulla Al-Sultani, President of Al-Zahraa University for Women, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Iman Sameer Bahiya, Dean of the Faculty of Education, the Department of Special Education headed by Lect. Dr. Nasreen Al-Jilawi, organised an academic visit to Imam Hussein Institute for the Deaf. The delegation consisted of faculty members from the department accompanied by a slew of female students.
The delegation was received by Prof. Basim Al-Quraishi, Director of the Institute, who discussed with them the specific needs of this group, approaches to teaching deaf learners, and methods of effective engagement. The visitors were also introduced to vocational training workshops, including sewing classes run by women with hearing impairments.
During the visit, the Director of the Institute provided the female students with an introductory session on sign language, outlining its significance for their specialisation. Additionally, an agreement was reached to organise dedicated workshops and training sessions in sign language for the female students of Al-Zahraa University. The female students expressed strong enthusiasm and eagerness to acquire this essential skill, recognising its significance for their future roles as teachers and trainers.
The Director warmly welcomed the initiative, emphasising the significance of continuing such visits to enrich the female students’ practical knowledge and better prepare them to serve as future educators for this vital segment of society.
